Red Chestnut - Cerastis rubricosa.

Red Chestnut - Cerastis rubricosa. A macro moth species from the family of Noctuidae subfamily Noctuinae. The ground colour is a uniform rich pale or dark reddish brown or purplish brown. The markings are often quite pale. The moth has a wingspan of 32 to 38 mm. The moth as one generation from February to April. The moth's habitat favours mainly woodland in the south, and wet moorland in the north. The larvae feed nocturnally in late spring on several herbaceous plants such as groundsel and bedstraw. The moth is widespread and classified nationally as a common species of the UK.
