Oak Beauty - Biston strataria. A macro moth species from the family of Geometridae sub family Ennominae. A large-bodied, attractive species with alternate bands of chestnut and white, speckled with black. The moth has a wingspan of 40-50 mm. The moth as one generation from February to April. The moth's habitat favours deciduous woodland and suburban habitats. The larva foodplants are several deciduous trees; the species is not restricted to Oak. The moth is widespread and classified nationally as a common species of the UK.
