May Highflyer - Hydriomena impluviata. A macro moth species from the family of Geometridae subfamily Larentiinae. Quite variable across its range, the northern populations often include several dark greys, melanic specimens. The moth has a wingspan of 30 to 34 mm. The moth as generations from May to July. The moth's habitat favours damper areas where Alder is present. Alder is the larval foodplant, the caterpillars spinning together the leaves during the autumn. The moth is reasonably widespread and classified nationally as a common species of the UK.
