Lunar Underwing - Omphaloscelis lunosa. A macro moth species from the family of Noctuidae sub family Xyleninae. A variable species, with individuals ranging from yellowish orange to dark brown. The darker forms usually show contrasting pale veins and crosslines, giving a 'netted' appearance. The moth has a wingspan of 32-38 mm. The moth as one generation from August to October. The moth as a wide range of habitats, including grassland, parks, downland, and gardens. It is a regularly visitor to artificial light. The larvae overwinter and feed on various grasses. The moth is widespread and classified nationally as a common species of the UK.
