Large Emerald - Geometra papilionaria A macro moth species from the family of Geometridae sub family Geometrinae. largest of the 'Emeralds', and common throughout Norfolk. The moth has a wingspan of 40 to 50 mm. The moth as one generation from June to August. The moths habitat favours woods, heaths and moors. The caterpillar is brown at first, but after overwintering becomes green with brownish 'warts', and feeds mainly on birch. The moth is classified nationally as a common species of the UK.
