Hello, from Steve Garten and welcome to my weird and wonderful world of moths.
Iām amateur Lepidopterist, I trap and record moth species on my six acre wildlife meadow at Tibenham Norfolk, UK.
The list of moths listed in this Macro-moths blog and the Micro Moths blog are the species I have recorded since 2015.
Flame moth - Axylia putris
The moth is from the family of Noctuidae -- subfamily --- Noctuinae.
It Is a small-sized macro moth,
with a wingspan of 27 to 36 mm.
There is one generation, flying from June to July.
The moth's habitat is mainly woodland fringes, hedgerows and suburban habitats.
The species overwinters a pupa on the food plant.
The larva appears from July to October.
It then pupates underground.
The caterpillars feed at night on various low-growing herbaceous plants, including Dock and Bedstraw.
The moth is classified nationally as a Common species of the UK.
