The Drinker - Euthrix potatoria. The moth is from the family of Lasiocampidae – subfamily ---- Pinarinae. . It Is a medium to large-sized macro moth, with a wingspan of 45 to 65 mm. This species gets it's English (and Latin) name from the caterpillar habits, which is supposed to have a liking for dew drops. As one generation and its flight season are July to August. The moth habitats are mainly in marshy places and riversides but also drier grassy terrain. The species overwinters as a small larva. The larva appears from August to June. It then pupates in a tapering cream coloured papery cocoon spun above ground,usually on a grass stem, but sometimes under a log. The species foodplants are mainly coarse grasses and reeds. The moth is classified nationally as a common species of the UK.
