Dot Moth-Melanchra persicariae

Dot Moth----Melanchra persicariae. The moth is from the family of Noctuidae – subfamily ---- Hadeninae. . It Is a medium-sized macro moth, with a wingspan of 37 to 40 mm. The moth as one generation and its flight season are from June to August. The moth habitats are mainly a range of suburban habitats, including gardens, waste ground and roadside verges. It overwinters as a pupa in an underground cocoon. The larva appears from August to October, feeds by day and night rests on the food plant The larva feeds on a wide range of garden and wild plants. The moth is common and widespread in England and Wales, but is almost unknown in Scotland, except the very south, where it occurs scarcely. It is local in Ireland.
