I’m amateur Lepidopterist, I trap and record moth species on my six acre wildlife meadow at Tibenham Norfolk, UK.

The list of moths listed in this Macro-moths blog and the Micro Moths blog are the species I have recorded since 2015.

Dark Chestnut - Conistra ligula.

The moth is from the family of Noctuidae – subfamily ---- Xyleninae.

It Is a small to medium-sized macro moth, with a wingspan of 30 to 38 mm.

The moth as one generation and its flight season is from October to February.

The moth habitats are mainly woodland and more open country including farmland.

It overwinters initially as an adult

The larvae initially feed on the catkins and leaves of willows and other trees, but later on herbaceous plants.

The larva appears from April to June,

The larval feed on the blackthorn, hawthorn, sallows, oaks, docks and dandelion.

It constructs a cocoon underground.

It then Pupates several weeks later.

The moth is classed as a common species and well distributed throughout the UK.
