Hello, from Steve Garten and welcome to my weird and wonderful world of moths.

I’m amateur Lepidopterist, I trap and record moth species on my six acre wildlife meadow at Tibenham Norfolk, UK.

The list of moths listed in this Macro-moths blog and the Micro Moths blog are the species I have recorded since 2015.

Copper Underwing - Amphipyra pyramidea agg

Copper Underwing agg. - Amphipyra pyramidea agg.

The moth is from the family of Noctuidae – subfamily ---- Amphipyrinae.

It Is a medium - large-sized macro moth, with a wingspan of 40 to 52 mm.

The moth as one generation and its flight season is from late July to early October.

The Copper Underwing is very similar to Svensson's Copper Underwing (Amphipyra berbera), and it is challenging to separate these two moth species apart.

The moth has a broad range of habitats including woodland, garden, scrub, hedgerows and parks.

It overwinters as an egg.

It then pupates underground.

The species feed on a range of trees and shrubs, mainly oak (Quercus).

The moth is classed as common and well distributed throughout the UK,
