Canary-shouldered Thorn - Ennomos alniaria

The moth is from the family of Geometidae, subfamily Ennominae.

The moth is a medium to large-sized macro species, with a wingspan of 38 to 42 mm.

Aptly named after its canary-yellow thorax, or 'shoulders'.

It feeds mainly downy and Silver Birch, Alder, limes, elms.

It overwinters mainly as an egg on the food plant,

The larva appears early May to July,

The lava feed on a variety of deciduous trees.

Pupates among plant debris or occasionally spun to small plants.

The moth's flight season is a single generation flying from July to October.

The species habitats is woodland, gardens and a range of other habitats.

The moth is a resident common species throughout the UK.
